January 2009 family videos to transfer

VHS TO DVD TRANSFER HI-8 TO DVD TRANSFER

Ever wondered how people got their family videos transferred onto DVD? There a few ways of approaching it. Depending on the equipment you already have, it may be cheaper one way or the other. First step, you'll have to identify what the original format of the tape is in, whether it be VHS, VHS-C, Hi-8, MiniDV all can be transferred with the same quality as your originals onto DVD.

Here is the first approach by transferring via computer to DVD:

Once you have identified the tape format, you will need to find a machine that can play the tape. Some of the older models will not have "firewire" (AKA 1394) connection which is the cable that connects to the computer. You will then need another machine that has the firewire connection in order to connect it into the computer. Sounds confusing? It does get complicated. To sum it up you will have up to 3 different machines. One has your tape, the other connects that machine with your tape in it to the computer. For example: you have a Hi-8 tape in your camera that does not have Firewire. So you take the RCA output signal from that camera and connect it into the input signal in your camcorder that is equip with Firewire connection. You plug another cable in that Firewire camcorder directly to the back of your computer. Note that your computer will also need to have the firewire card.

Once all this is hooked up. You will need a software to capture the footage into the computer then export it onto DVD. Please click
here for that tutorial. This method is used if you have more time and have a ton of extra equipment that you can use.

If you have a larger budget, you can consider purchasing a DVD Recorder. It is much more easy to use and connect together. They can range from $200 to $500. Once you've purchased, all you have to do is connect the RCA cables from your camera into the input signal of your DVD Recorder. Then hit record. Some of the DVD Recorders have a hard drive and some can record directly to disc. I prefer the ones that records onto the hard drive first because you get a little more control in terms of trimming the footage and so on, but those tend to cost a little more. You also don't waste a disc if anything happens during the capturing process.

Another solution is the take it to a transferring company that can transfer your footage onto DVD directly. They can range anywhere from $15 and up. depending on the tape format. For more information on video transferring feel free to visit our site here
