MiniDV won't play

Why does my MiniDV not play on my camcorder?
If you have a MiniDV tape that was recorded, in HD and you placed it into your camcorder that records standard 720X480 resolution, then the camcorder will let you know that you need a compatible camcorder has HD capabilities. On older units, you will see the counter move as you rewind/fast forward and play, but you will see no picture.
Another reason why your MiniDV isn't playing its because it was filmed in another video system for example PAL/NTSC/SECAM and your camcorder cannot recognize that format. You can rent, purchase or take it to a video transferring house and they will be able to transfer the video system into another system.
If you see images that look corrupted or distorted when playing back the MiniDV, your camcorder unit may need head cleaning. You can purchase a head cleaning tape or if it is severe, you can take it to a specialist and have them actually take out the head or even replace it with a new one.
I've also ran into problems where a particular camcorder will play a certain tape and won't work on another unit. A good example was when I had a canon camcorder and I captured video with a panasonic unit. The images came out distorted and the audio was choppy. In this case either purchase/rent another camera that can play the tape. You can also take it to the video transferring house
Hopefully these tips will help. Keep on playing!
