Growing up, I watched movie after movie after movie. Although they were animated, the characters from my childhood always managed to inspire me to live my best life. While the real world was not as magical as the worlds I experienced through the movies I watched, these films inspired me to seek out similar adventures in my ordinary life, or at least as close to them as possible.

Eventually, everyone gets older. Many fall into clockwork, operating according to a predictable schedule, getting sucked into the hum drum of daily life. When you live that life, the one which hardly affords you any time to yourself, it’s hard not to yearn for that magic; that easygoing perspective that childhood gives you. As a high school student, I can vouch for this. Everyday feels the same; we go to school, we come home and we eat, and then we’re usually left with no time to do much else but finish our work and go to sleep. There are lucky days, however. Days where I get to experience some semblance of relaxation, where I am allotted just enough time to watch a show or a movie, or to even spend a few minutes on social media.

Those snippets of time are what make film special.  Those moments we reserve for our own personal enjoyment and freedom; the brief escape from the hectic world around us, the journey away from our tedious and exhausting lives toward new realities. Better realities, perhaps.

Co-op is a class brimming with opportunity. Students are encouraged to take co-op to experience the workplace, while still being provided the chance to explore their own interests.  A student could work in a hospital, an auto shop, or even a grocery store. I am a daydreamer; so, what better place could I have chosen to work other than a place where dreams are made. That’s why I chose a film production company as my placement. Though making and producing film is not as glamorous as my dreams of unknown lands and ruby slippers once were, the final product would not be possible without those behind the scenes details. All those tiny, intricate details are what truly help to produce the glamour that entrances people to keep moving forward, and that pushes me forward with them.
