Last week I ranked 5 of my favorite science fiction films in pt 1. Here’s the remaining of the countdown. So thanks for waiting, here’s films ranked 5 – 1.

5) The original Star Wars Trilogy – One would expect the original Star Wars series to be higher on the list considering that this series was one of the progenitors of the sci-fi trend. However, there are so many good sci-fi movies out there, that don’t require people to watch in order to be considered a fan. The trilogy follows the adventures of princess Leia and Luke Skywalker as they try to save the galaxy from darkness. This summarizes the plot of all three movies, without going into extreme detail. Even to this day, the movies remain a brilliant cinematic feat, so make sure to watch.

4) Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)  – Fury Road is the fourth installment in the Mad Max series. It had the highest budget and has received the most critical acclaim. The Mad Max series is arguably the easiest Sci-fi series to get into, since it is equal parts action thriller as it is sci-fi. Mad max is set in a post-apocalyptic future, where an evil ruler, Immortal Joe watches over a broken world. When one of his most trusted lieutenants, Imperator Furiosa, sets out to escape his rule. Furiosa leaves, taking all his wives with her. Along the way she meets Max Rockatansky, where they travel through the harsh desert to survive the ruthless marauders. Fury Road will inform you of everything that happened in the first film, however you should still watch the previous films are they’re just as superb.

3) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) – This is the second film in a series of four. I recommend watching the original, since there are references from the first. Ten years have passed since the first cyborg, the Terminator tries to kill Sarah Conner and her unborn son, John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. Now John Conner is being hunted once again by another more powerful terminator sent back through time called T-1000. This time Sarah and John do not have to fight T-1000, another Terminator, alone, as exactly same individual as the one who failed to kill the two has been sent back in time to solely to protect them. This movie is a classic chase movie, and will satisfy all sci-fi and action fanatics.

2) The Matrix – The Matrix is another example of an action sci-fi that tops the charts. This movie perfectly combines high energy scenes, content and is technically stunning. Thomas A. Anderson lives two lives; he is an average computer programmer and a hacker known as Neo. Neo finds himself being chased by the police when he is contacted by Morpheus, a computer hacker coined a terrorist by the government. Morpheus sparks an awakening in Neo. Neo realizes that the real world is a wasteland where most of humanity have been captured by a race of machines who imprison their minds in a place called the Matrix. Neo tries his best to fight the Matrix back and confront the agents hunting him down. This movie sparked a new filming style that was used for many years after in blockbuster films. One should see where the CGI trends started at least once in their life.

1) Alien (1979) – This is my all time favourite sci-fi film as it captures the essence of all the best horror films, and opens our imagination to other worlds. Alien is a thriller sci-fi that leaves the audience waiting for what’s next to come. Set far in the future, spaceship Nostromo, receives a SOS signal from another moon. The crew are woken from the hypersleep and land on the moon. Upon exploring the moon, part of the crew discover a derelict spaceship containing thousands of eggs. After further research the crew discovers that the SOS was actually a distress call. When one of the eggs become agitated, the crew does not realize the danger to come. The anticipation from waiting draws the watcher in, fully submerging them in another world. The success from this movie has inspired an entire franchise and many horror and sci-fi movies to come years later.
