The 85th Academy Awards recently took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and
the event had many film lovers racing to finish watching the nominated films before
the big night. This will be the Academy Awards ceremony. Interestingly enough, as
of this awards ceremony the Academy Awards are now officially branded as “The
Oscars” and no longer called the “Academy Awards” in an official capacity.

The Oscars continued their new tradition of having a selection of more Best Picture
nominees. This year there were nine, while the previous limit of five nominees set
in 1945 was replaced with a limit of 10 nominees in 2010.

The nine nominees for Best Picture were:

Amour
Life of Pi
Argo
Lincoln
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Silver Linings Playbook
Django Unchained
Zero Dark Thirty
Les Miserables

Argo won the Oscar for Best Picture.

The Best Actor in a Leading Role nominees were:

Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook)
Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)
Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)
Denzel Washington (Flight)
High Jackson (Les Miserables)

Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The Best Actress Nominees in a Leading Role nominees were:

Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty)
Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild)
Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)
Naomi Watts (The Impossible)
Emmanuelle Riva (Amour)

Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Christoph Waltz
and Anne Hathaway won the Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Actress.
